UNLEARNING IS THE KEY ATTRIBUTE BEFORE LEARNING.
Modern Education has for decades followed the linear formula “that teaches students to follow time tested PATHS based on documentation of past successes and past history”. This past data has been termed as “knowledge” for centuries and its “acquisition alone” is still perceived by learners as being sufficient to provide ready made and lifetime careers.
The current era of uncertainty where “knowledge is rapidly being converted to free information” is confusing for our youngsters (and future managers). The future need for learners is “non linear thinking” to develop new self skills for solution design which have to be applied as per the rapidly changing environments. This is far from becoming a part of a curriculum.
We have to learn this outside the class room or college so that when we are Managers we have the skills which “can consistently identify from within multiple options the right path with our focus on “direction rather than goal”.
In the linear era, rapid change, uncertainty and complexity were almost always the exceptional event and not the norm! We now need a new learning to acquire skills to self manage within extended environments of “Uncertainty and Complexity”. There is no time for our seniors to figure out and develop “new instructions for us to follow when every week and every month creates a new environment” |
